Hull & Beverley

1-Day Guided Tour

Travelling first under the Humber Bridge, we arrive in Hull – UK City of Culture. This East Coast port has traded with the world for hundreds of years – and it’s history is revealed in streets and buildings.

If you’ve been before, we’ll help you find so much more.  If it’s your first time – we think you’ll be impressed!

Nearby Beverley is Hull’s smaller sister – a pretty and traditional English market town. Yet hundreds of years ago Beveley was one of the most important towns in England.  This would explain Beverley Minster – an astonishing building.  Later we travel through the countryside and return home crossing over the Humber Bridge.

For students, adults or families.

Highlights

  • Beverley Minster – 700 hundred years old, but rises like a cruise ship over this ancient town
  • Wilberforce House – historic home of the UK’s great England’s Anti-Slave Trade campaigner
  • Climb onto the stage-coach at Hull’s Transport Museum or step on board the Arctic Corsair for deep-sea fishermen’s tales
  • Find the golden statue of ‘King Billy’ and the hidden alleyways to the ‘Land of Green Ginger’
  • The Humber Bridge, spectacular views on what was once the world’s longest single-span.

Itinerary

Hull has been one of the major ports of Britain for hundreds of years, with a dramatic history that includes world-exploration, Empire and Arctic whaling. In the Industrial Revolution Hull supplied the national passion for Fish & Chips, remaining one of the world’s biggest fishing ports until the 1970s.

The Old Town of Hull is an intimate place to visit – with a discovery around every corner, before the streets open onto dramatic views of the Humber Estuary.  The city boasts one of Britain’s finest museum quarters, there is great architecture too, and for lovers of art there is the Ferens – one of the best galleries outside London.

Beverley is a pretty English town, once much bigger than Hull.  Beverley Minster is beautiful.  It is very big,  but it is the lovely details that are most impressive.  Five hundred years ago, Beverley was a centre for European music – how many stone carved musicians can you find amongst the angels and saints in the Minster?

Beverley Minster – like the art gallery and most museums in Hull are free to visit.
